Personal Description:

I run BeSharp Woodwinds in Norfolk, where I teach saxophone, clarinet and flute to people of all ages and abilities. I have a particular interest in using the latest research in cognitive science to give my students the edge in making fast, effective progress.

I have played in various ensembles and settings, including saxophone quartets, shows, weddings and other events.

Tutoring Experience:

I'm a qualified teacher and have been working in classroom teaching, music tuition and learning support for over 20 years. I have worked in state, private and special needs schools in one-to-one, whole-class and group settings. I bring my experience in education and the latest evidence-based learning methods to my teaching in a fun way that helps students make the most efficient progress and achieve their goals. I have taken students through advanced grades with 100% success.

Tutoring Approach:

We play music for fun, and the way to have the most fun is to be guided in creating the habits and small changes needed to improve steadily over time. I believe we make the most progress when we're inspired by others and have a clear idea about what we want to achieve.

All my students come to me with different levels of ability and ambition, and together we create a plan to reach our musical goals that is clear, actionable and rewarding: we create a bespoke programme using evidence-based learning strategies to supercharge our progress while having as much fun as possible.

Adults and children can begin or continue their musical journey in a friendly, fun environment where building confidence and developing a growth mindset is at the heart of what we do.
