Personal Description:

Hi there! I'm Charlie, a professional session guitarist, teacher, keyboard player, vocalist, composer and songwriter. In 2018 I toured Europe with New Order as a keyboard player including shows in Vienna and Turin. In 2019 I was the assistant composer for the international hit TV series 'Flack' starring Oscar winner Anna Paquin. As a session guitarist I've toured supporting artists including Florence and the Machine, Pink, Haim and Dermot Kennedy and I've played venues including Hyde Park, The Hammersmith Apollo and Marley park (40,000 cap). I also have experience on live Television and radio including BBC5 live, The Late Late show, The Laura Whitmore show and BBC London live. As a songwriter, music I've worked on has been played extensively on BBC radio 1 and BBC radio 6 and has amassed hundreds of thousands of streams online.
In 2022-23 I was a teacher and course leader on the prestigious Young Artists programme at the Royal Northern College of Music. We tutored over 50 13-18 year olds in songwriting, instrumental studies and live performance and this is where I truly discovered my love of teaching. I unfortunately had to leave the position as I relocated to London as my session work was increasingly based here but I'm now very keen to pick up more teaching in London!
Music is the greatest passion in my life and I love sharing that with people. I am a people person and I love the social aspect of the music industry.

Tutoring Experience:

In 2022-23 I was a teacher and course leader on the prestigious Young Artists programme at the Royal Northern College of Music. We tutored over 50 13-18 year olds in songwriting, instrumental studies and live performance with a view to guiding them into the undergraduate course and in the first year of the course we had success securing places for several students.

I have over 5 years of experience with one on one tutoring and I have taught students of all different ages and abilities from children to adults in their 50s and from beginners to professionals looking to expand their knowledge.

Tutoring Approach:

Everything I do comes from a place of passion. Inspiring a passion and love for music in pupils is my number 1 aim and from that point we can then find meaning in the technical and theoretical aspects of learning that are also necessary. Understanding my pupils unique musical ambitions and potential is key to building a teaching plan specific to them.
Music is an aural skill so alongside using sheet music I always make sure to listen to a lot of music with my students and see what inspires them. With younger students I try to make my lessons above all joyful and fun because instilling a healthy and positive relationship with music at a young age is key to long term success.
