Personal Description:

I'm a keen musician who started violin and piano at the age of 7 and have never looked back! I start teaching casually at aged 16 and more seriously after my studies at aged 24. I did an undergraduate course in Huddersfield University with joint study of violin and piano and graduated with a 2:1 and then took a masters in performance on the violin studying with the head of strings at the RNCM. I also studied for some time afterwards with Nona Liddell at Trinity College of Music when I moved back to London.
I've played in bands also as a session musician and although I'm classically trained, I have a very open mind to different types of music and think it's essential that a child or adult learning an instrument has lots of room to learn the type of music that they like to listen to also as this can be more engaging and inclusive in today's world. I love to see improvement and enjoyment blossom in students. Music should never be exclusive and anyone who wants to learn deserves the opportunity.

Tutoring Experience:

I've taught in primary and secondary schools in West Sussex and privately for many years, from ages 4 - 70. I've taken many pupils through the Associated Board exams and several of those achieved Merit and Distinction with a 99% pass rate. Also many who simply wanted to learn and not classical but more pop music and songs.

Tutoring Approach:

I take a friendly approach and don't believe in the 'strict' school of thought. I think that the best playing comes from enjoyment. I'm very patient and understand that what may seem easy now to me was once very challenging! It's essential to remember this with beginners and even intermediate students. The formality comes with the structure of learning (technique/studies/scales etc.) and the clear time frame of a lesson. Within that is the freedom for the teacher to always learn the best approach to each individual. I also studied and practised music therapy for a few years which I think has only informed and deepened my teaching skills.
