Personal Description:

I am professional composer, currently with representation from 44PointOne, composing commissioned music for TV advertising. I have a long history of scoring for films and theatre and am one of the UK's leading supplyers of music for dance education. Educated at Middlesex University, I was tutored there by renowned composer Richard Barrett and also studied under computer-music specialist Bruce Mahin in the US. As a working drummer, percussionist, flaustist and singer-songwriter, my composition is informed by a broad range of hands-on experience, ranging from experimental improvisation through to pop/rock.

Tutoring Experience:

Currently working as an advisor and mentor to schools delivering the new Diploma in Creative Media, I am also a visiting lecturer at Bath Spa University. I have run a variety of workshops in music improvisation, including work with adult 'non-musicians', theatre groups, school groups, dance students, dance teachers and VSO workers in Zimbabwe.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to composition tutoring is one of facilitating and 'steering' rather than teaching any one set method. We'll look at composition as exploration and discovery, rather than following learnt rules, helping you gain a sense of freedom to experiment and explore in your own work. I work mainly with music software but am also happy to tutor students who wants to compose at their instrument or even with abstract sounds.
