Personal Description:
Hi!
I am a professional flautist, offering lessons in flute, piccolo, and baroque flute, together with music theory as required.
I am an active performer on modern and historical flutes, having performed as principal flute with the Ulster Orchestra, Northern Ballet Sinfonia, as well as second flute/piccolo with the Hallé Orchestra, London Philharmonic Orchestra, Réjouissance, and the Zürcher Symphoniker.
I studied at the Royal Northern College of Music with Laura Jellicoe and Janet Richardson, obtaining my Bachelor of Music with 1st class Honours in 2022. Afterwards I studied towards a Master of Performance at the Royal College of Music in London with Sue Thomas, Rachel Brown, and Stewart Mcilwham, graduating with Distinction in 2024.
During my studies I have also learned with players such as Julien Beaudiment, Andrea Oliva, and Sébastian Jacot, and played side by side with musicians from the Chamber Orchestra of Europe and the Academy of Ancient Music. I am keen to pass on the experience and knowledge I gained from working with wonderful musicians and colleagues.
Tutoring Experience:
I am offering lessons in flute, piccolo, baroque flute, and music theory. I believe the learning of music should be an enjoyable experience for students of all ages and levels, so whether you are picking up an instrument as a casual hobby or preparing for conservatoire auditions, lessons will be tailored to each student's individual needs. I am available to help students with graded exams, but also equally happy to teach and learn together outside the exam system!
I have experience with the graded exams, having undertaken them myself on flute, piano, and music theory, obtaining an ATCL in flute before beginning my conservatoire studies. Recently I worked with the ABRSM to record materials for their new Diploma Syllabus. Possessing extensive experience with recording, I am able to assist with recorded ABRSM exams.
Tutoring Approach:
Lessons can be online or in-person in Manchester, delivered in English, Cantonese, or Mandarin. Lessons will be tailored to the individual needs of each student, and all ages and levels are most welcome. Whether you are looking for a teacher for your child, or picking up a new hobby, do drop me a message!
