Personal Description:
I am a classical bass-baritone posgraduate at the Royal Academy of Music. Here is my background as a performer:
After graduating with a First Class Degree in History from Trinity Hall, Cambridge, I took up a Choral Scholarship at Norwich Cathedral. I have featured on CDs, broadcast for Choral Evensong on Radio 3, and performed across Europe.
I have appeared as a performer in in public masterclasses led by Chen Reiss and Sarah Fox, and worked with renowned conductors such as Vladimir Jurowksi and Ton Koopman.
A member of the National Youth Theatre for eight years, I recently sang the roles of Figaro (Le Nozze di Figaro) and **Web Address Removed** lustigen Weiber von Windsor). In June 2016 I gave the inaugural recital of the 2016 Schubert Festival in Norwich.
Upcoming engagements include the prestigious Kohn Foundation Bach Cantata Series, concert performances in Valencia and Hamburg, and Mèphistophélès (Faust) in Royal Academy of Music Opera Scenes.
Tutoring Experience:
Alongside my performance career, I am in high demand in London and across the UK as a masterclass leader and music teacher, with a specialism in teaching teenagers and developing voices. Recently I was invited to the Isle of Wight to lead a masterclass with sixth form students from different schools.
I am constantly updating my teaching practices and seeking to learn more about teaching. In 2016 I enrolled on the Licentiate of the Royal Academy of Music (LRAM), one of the world's most prestigious teaching qualifications.
In addition to my music teaching, I am well-known as a humanities tutor, specialising in History and English. I maintain a practice in both Central and West London.
Tutoring Approach:
My lessons are focused but relaxed, aimed towards developing and nurturing the true voice of the student rather than creating an imitated, manufactured sound. A healthy, flexible technique is at the core of my practice. I have taught classical, operatic and musical theatre styles.

He has great depth and breadth of knowledge for Russia, Civil Rights and Cold War units of IGCSE history, gives tangible and insightful feedback on my essays, and always manages to guide me to explore more beyond the curriculum. I achieved a grade 9 in the end, but the most valuable takeaway for me was that I regained an appreciation for history and realised the necessity of the skill to put things in context and analyse their impacts. He has guided our son, giving him clear and challenging goals each week and has worked through a programme of reading in order to expand our son’s knowledge and understanding of history. He is now preparing him for a Cambridge interview, having coached him for the History assessment test. Our son holds Ben in high regard and has developed enormously over the last few months. From Anna (/5): We had one history lesson with Benjamin. He was well prepared and knowledgable about the subject. He also gave us very detailed feedback about the lesson which was highly appreciated. Unfortunately he didn’t “click” with our son and they both found it challenging to work with each other so we mutually decided not to continue with the lessons. However we would recommend Benjamin as a teacher.
