Personal Description:

Captivated by music from an early age, I had to wait until I was seven years old before receiving piano lessons! Meanwhile I improvised, composed worked out my favourite tunes and got into bad habits with fingering! I was fortunate enough to attend primary and secondary schools where music was encouraged and I learnt recorder, clarinet, viola and percussion besides the piano. My love of music was further enhanced by six exciting years at the Junior Guildhall School of Music where my passion for composition and orchestral music developed. I took my ARCM piano teaching diploma before reading music at the University of York and then trained to be a class music teacher at the College of Ripon and York St. John, York. Most of my career has combined teaching the piano and academic music. I was one of the first to gain the new Dip ABRSM in piano performance introduced in December 2000. The Piano Club I formed in 2005 for adults in the Bristol area is still thriving with a regular membership of more than twenty people of all ages and levels. Until my recent move to Cardiff, I enjoyed playing the viola in many of the local amateur orchestras but I am still enjoying accompanying, playing chamber music, duets or two-piano works - yes I have TWO pianos - with colleagues and attending orchestral concerts and piano recitals. I love Cardiff! There is so much music here! I have my own teaching studio in Llandaff.

Tutoring Experience:

Class music teacher from 1982 to 2003. (Huntingdon: 1982 - 1984, Head of Music Bristol: 1985 - 1989 and A level teacher Sixth Form College Bristol 1990 – 2003).
Private piano teacher from 1988 in Bristol until I moved to Cardiff last year. Building up a new clien**Contact Detail Removed**.
Visiting piano teacher at Wells Cathedral School from 1993 to date
Visiting piano teacher at Marlborough College in Wiltshire from 2006 to date

Tutoring Approach:

I love teaching music and the piano! I enjoy the journey of learning together and tailoring to the needs of each individual student. I have a large library of music, scores, various tutor and reference books, and recordings in my own teaching room with two pianos: so I have everything I need to hand for teaching. I will prepare students for examinations, if required, at all levels including diploma. I am happy to work with beginners or experienced students, young people or adults. I also provide opportunities to perform with student concerts at least once a year.
