Personal Description:

Hello! I’m Al and I’m a professional sound engineer and tutor with many years of experience in the music industry. I give lessons in music production customised to your needs, specialising in Ableton Live and Pro Tools. I also have a thorough knowledge of Logic Pro. With over 10 years in the music industry I’ve worked on all major music software platforms. I use Ableton Live, Pro Tools and Logic on a daily basis as well as analogue mixing desks and outboard gear. My work has taken me to studios in London, Paris and Los Angeles. I previously worked as in-house engineer at The Dairy Studios in London. I work on a variety of projects from recording and mixing bands, to producing remixes and creating sound design pieces for **Contact Detail Removed**vision.

Tutoring Experience:

I’ve been giving private tuition for over 10 years and enjoy sharing my knowledge of music production with those who are keen to learn. It doesn’t matter if you have absolutely no previous experience or whether you are looking to top up your production skills – I’ve taught a huge range of abilities as you’ll see from the testimonials. As well as one-to-one tuition I can also cater to small groups.

Testimonials:

"I was new to Ableton and ‘wet behind the ears’. Lessons with Al helped me discover new instruments and the full meaning and purpose of them. I gained more confidence and was taught different methods of experimenting with music, and developing different sounds. I would recommend Al as a knowledgeable and experienced tutor of music production. He’s also a top man and very professional!" Rich Powis – Ableton Learner

"Aside from being a thoroughly nice bloke, Al presented everything in a clear and concise manner and tailored the content to suit my level. I’d definitely recommend him and I’m now much more confident in my ability to mix my tracks in Logic." Jim Hustwit - Composer and Songwriter

"Al’s my first-call engineer when I’m starting a new project. Doesn’t matter whether it’s Ableton, Pro Tools or Logic, he knows his way round them all. He’s shown me some amazing stuff with Ableton which has convinced me to integrate it with the Soul II Soul live show." Jazzie B, Soul II Soul

"Al’s lessons on Ableton Live were great. He took me through everything, made it all very clear, and went at a pace that really suited me. I feel I’ve now got the confidence to use the software in any way that I want. Plus, he made it all seem fun and creative, which is exactly what making music should be. I’d highly recommend him to anyone wanting to learn how to use Ableton." Robert Szymanek – Composer

"Al is THE Ableton guru! His teaching style is friendly and easy to follow and he’s always able to show me how to make the sound that’s in my head! I’ve been a club DJ for years now and after these lessons I’m finally making my own tracks and playing them out live. I never realised Ableton would be so much fun!" DJ Kaveh – Resident DJ at Project, Libertine & Rose

Tutoring Approach:

I always begin lessons by getting to know the student, then we come up with a lesson plan 100% tailored to what you want to achieve. If there's a specific sound or technique you'd like to learn then I encourage you to send me a link or mp3 so I can prepare a tutorial for you in advance.

Lessons take place either at my home studio, or I can travel to you for a small extra fee. I can also provide tuition remotely e.g. via Skype.
