Personal Description:

Hello, my name is Aileen and I'm a professional musician and composer based in Glasgow. I offer lessons from beginner to advanced levels and have experience preparing students for ABRSM and SQA exams. I perform and tour with various bands and ensembles meaning I am able teach a variety of different styles from Scottish Traditional Music to Classical.

During my undergraduate degree, I was awarded first place for the Tony and Tania Prize for Solo Rare Russian Music and the Dunbar-Gerber prize for chamber music prize. During this time, I was also a finalist of the Edinburgh Concerto Competition where I performed Piazzolla’s Bandoneon Concerto, conducted by David Watkin. I have also performed with some of the leading contemporary music ensembles in Scotland such as The Glasgow New Music Expedition, Ensemble Thing and NOISE Opera.
In 2016, I founded the folk-fusion band Eriska. We launched our debut album “At the Wrong Gig” in July 2018 and since then have toured the album in Scotland and Switzerland.

I am currently one of the composers selected for the London Philharmonic Orchestra's 2019/20 Young Composers Scheme and BBC Radio 3 Adopt a Composer Scheme. In 2017, I was nominated by the RCS to be the first award recipient of the Geddes-Peterson Foundation prize for composition. In addition, I've been commissioned by and worked with many of the UK's leading ensembles such as The Brodick Quartet, The Red Note Ensemble, The Psappha Ensemble, The Hebrides Ensemble and The Edinburgh Quartet.

Tutoring Experience:

I have over 8 years of teaching experience and currently teach at The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland Music Works Centres as well as at various primary and secondary schools across Glasgow, East Dunbartonshire and Argyll and Bute. All my students have had a 100% pass rate in SQA exams, with all students receiving A grades. I have also taught on a many summer schools at The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, Feis Rois and The Theatre Royal in Glasgow.

Tutoring Approach:

Lessons are always tailored to the interests and learning style of each individual student. Students are always encouraged to learn through playing the music they love and enjoy which always make the learning and practising process much easier! I believe it is important to build each students technical and aural abilities alongside learning their favourite music. This ensures that as well as learning your instrument, you become a well rounded and confident musician.
