Personal Description:
I am a native Russian. I come from St Petersburg in Russia and have lived in the UK for 20 years. I am a qualified tecaher and translator and a public service interpreter, a member of the Chartered Institute of Linguists and NRPSI.
Teaching Experience:
I have over 20 years experience in private tuition and teaching and examining at schools. My students normally get A or A* or 9 for their GCSE and A level Russian exams. I have taught all levels one-to-one and groups. I also examine Russian orals and the students normally get a full set of 9s. I can help prepare to Russian state exams and I have all necessary materials.
Teaching Approach:
I can recommend all the materials and I use good English and Russian materials, including CDs, videos, text books and work books. I can also recommend reading materials at every stage of learning and I can get them from Russia if needed. I look at all aspects of language learning including phonetics, grammar, listening, reading and writing.

From Polina (/5): I had sessions with Maria from the start of year 13 while working towards my Russian A-level, and found her to be very helpful in explaining the subject content/ helping me evaluate my essays, as well explaining the exam process and breaking down the mark schemes to help me understand the criteria for success and pinpoint points of weakness that we worked on improving together. This is particularly helpful for essays and the speaking exam/independent research project, as these mark schemes can be tricky to understand.

From Alexander (/5): Maria is excellent with a mastery of the Russian language, able to answer all of my pesky “why is it like this?” questions without hesitation. She has a deep knowledge of the history and development of the Russian language and is able to explain the grammatical structures with ease. Highly recommend to all.

From Anastasia (/5): Maria is an outstanding tutor. With her help I was able to achieve an A* in my Russian A-level. Within less than nine months she was able to get me from a very basic level of Russian to getting an A* in my exam. I was so lost regarding the Russian A-level coursework as the exam board that I was using provided no textbooks or external help, and Maria was invaluable in providing all of the necessary materials, resources and homework to help me progress so much in such a short time. I would not have been able to get the mark I got without her help. Maria is very professional and it is clear that she is deeply invested in her students. And she is a wonderful person too! I would immediately recommend her to anybody needing help with or interested in learning the Russian language.

From Joy (/5): Maria is an excellent teacher. She is knowledgeable and experienced, providing useful supplementary materials for my son who is taking the GCSE course. During lessons, she clarifies his questions on grammar (declensions, prepositions) with relevant exercises. After 5 lessons, he gained both confidence and overall competence, scoring 94 marks on his term exam.

This is a really good supplement to his school lessons and Maria is working in combination with Georges school lesson content.
