Personal Description:

Hi, my name is Yao. I am a native Chinese mandarin speaker, with a vast experience in private tutoring for many years.

My professional background is in business. I have always loved teaching languages since university days.

I am based in Edinburgh, all my classes are offered online.

Teaching Experience:

My main clientele for Mandarin tutoring are adults with a fond interest in Chinese culture, or a work/social connection with China. Whether you are an absolute beginner, or would like to improve your existing proficiency, I can tailor our sessions according to your needs and learning style.

I also have a sound track record in helping GCSE/A-level students improve their Mandarin exam results. One of my key strengths is exam strategies. I help students develop their thought process, analytical skills, as well as competence in approaching exams, while becoming more confident Mandarin speakers.

Teaching Approach:

I believe the best way to learn a language is within the context. I use lots of examples, and create lots of opportunities for students to practice speaking during my lessons. Students feel stimulated and fulfilled after a lesson.

Having worked in the UK corporate world for the past 10 years, I speak proficient English. A lot of my students find this extra helpful during classes, when we need to switch between English and Chinese to explain things.
