Personal Description:

QTS; experienced language teacher of 40+ years with in-depth knowledge and examination requirements (GCSE, A Level) offering one-to-one tuition specialising in coaching for examinations.
Short-term 'revision' coaching courses prior to public examinations are available.
Languages: German, French plus Russian, Danish and Dutch at lower levels.
Outstanding results in public examinations.

Teaching Experience:

Original qualifications in music (BMus, King's College London, 1977).
However experience in teaching languages since 1980 in a variety of secondary schools, selective and non-selective.
Some visiting lectures given at university. Small research record in German linguistics.
Experience also working for one examination board.
Currently teaching in a local grammar school.

Teaching Approach:

The competences of comprehension, speaking and writing, plus a knowledge of grammar are all regarded as essential to success. All tutees are assessed informally to ascertain the level reached and where more or less support is required. The programme then proceeds from this basis and with regard to any special areas to be covered, such as spoken fluency, grammar, writing or vocabulary learning.
Textbooks are used but supplemented with bespoke materials for the tutee and past examination papers where required.
