Personal Description:

Hi, I'm a native English speaker from the United Kingdom. I'm CELTA qualified to teach adults, have a BA (Hons) degree in English, and I have lots of experience teaching adults and children both in England and in Hong Kong. My hobbies are reading and writing, and I'm part of an online writers' group with members from all over the world. Our group has published two anthologies of short stories, and I'm currently finishing a novel. I enjoy walking and am lucky enough to live near a beautiful beach. I have four children aged 14 to 24, and I'm a relaxed and friendly person.

Teaching Experience:

As well as having lots of recent classroom experience teaching adults from all over the world, I'm qualified to teach children and teenagers. I completed the Cambridge TKT Young Learners' course in September 2018 and was DBS checked and approved when I started working at International House Newcastle. I used to work at Sear Rogers International School in Hong Kong, teaching children from throughout South East Asia, and I have worked at mainstream English primary schools in the UK. I have also tutored one to one and in small groups. I love exploring the English language with learners and can help you to strengthen your English, whether you are a complete beginner or already proficient.

Teaching Approach:

I will tailor my lessons to fit your individual needs. I teach reading, writing, listening and speaking, as well as grammar and functional English that will help you in everyday situations. I have lots of resources available to me, from the best grammar and language books to videos and worksheets, and a great interactive learning platform we can use via Skype or Zoom if we are having online lessons. I will set you a placement test to find your correct level, and then structure a series of lessons to suit your needs and interests. I'm happy to set and correct homework, and help you with your writing - whether it's for a job application or an essay. Your success and improvement are at the heart of what I do and I know you will enjoy our lessons.
