This is how 2 referees rated Sharon:
I am a fluent Spanish speaker who has been teaching Spanish for over 20 years from beginners through to advanced level. I am an English national but having gone through the process of learning Spanish myself I understand the problems English speakers face when trying to learn the language. I know how to address these issues whilst making lessons fun and enjoyable. Learning any language can be very challenging and takes a lot of hard work, my role is principally to provide discipline and a structure for learning Spanish and to support a student in speaking and understanding this beautiful language well.
I have taught Beginners and Advanced Spanish at Salford College of Further Education and worked for the University of Oxford Local Examination Board as an external A-Level oral examiner which involved travelling throughout the UK visiting schools that used their syllabus and testing A-Level students on their spoken Spanish.
The majority of my teaching experience comes from private tuition on a one to one basis and in small groups. My private tuition has been via agencies such as First Tutors UK and word of mouth. I have taught school children studying GCSE and A-Level Spanish through to adults wanting to learn the language on a casual basis.
My approach to tutoring is very flexible, I adapt myself to the needs and requirements of the tutee, however I work from a very clear baseline i.e. that a knowledge of Spanish grammar is essential in understanding how to speak the language. When someone asks me to teach them conversational Spanish, grammar has to form part of the lesson. However, this does not have to mean that the lesson then becomes pure theory - I have a wealth of knowledge and material at my fingertips and use these to make the whole experience very enjoyable.
