Personal Description:
I am passionate about languages and describe myself as a fun, patient and very enthusiastic teacher.
Teaching Experience:
I achieved my degree (Spanish and French BA Hons) and then embarked on a PGCE through the University of Southampton. I have a great deal of experience of teaching all ages and abilities from Primary school children to A level students. I have run well attended after school clubs in both Spanish and French.
Teaching Approach:
I use the four elements of language learning ie: Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing and try to space these equally throughout my lessons.
I use various resources ie: Powerpoint, interactive kinaesthetic games etc and also visual and auditory learning aids.
I am particularly careful with teaching good pronunciation and correct grammar starting from basics and never get impatient if my student/students are struggling with one particular aspect.

Sulwen certainly has the potential to go from strength to strength with her learning of the French language but it takes patience and conviction as well has hard work. I know that the building blocks/foundations are fundamental to all 4 elements of learning a language … listening, speaking, reading and writing. I endeavour to create a relaxed and fun learning space where my students can work at their own pace.

Reply from: Sarah: Laura is a motivated and hard working student and is determined to improve her conversational side of Spanish. This is often the most difficult part and requires confidence and not to worry about making mistakes. I am so pleased that she is making progress and learning some useful phrases to use whilst speaking.

I've been having one-to-one lessons with Sarah for a couple of months now and I'm already seeing a breakthrough. She's hugely enthusiastic and encouraging. Highly recommended.

We work with a mutually compatible style of learning according to their needs and I try to make sure the hour is divided up into using the appropriate listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. I enjoy teaching them and their motivation is very apparent.

We are really pleased with the lessons and progress made - our child always enjoys the lessons, which are varied and fun, and it is clear that Sarah thinks about what style of teaching works well and takes a lot of effort to make the lessons stimulating. Reply from: Sarah: Thank you… I find it a pleasure to be teaching your daughter French. She is responsive to all my inputs… Visual/kinaesthetic is important for her learning but she is also happy to write things down in her exercise book. I concentrate mainly on listening and pronunciation and keep writing at this age to a minimum.

Reply from: Sarah: I am proud to be able to say that Peter is a motivated and hard-working student and clearly making great progress. He does his homework!! He is proactive during lessons and therefore it is a two way learning session - I give him the tools and he manages to succeed.
We eventually picked back up with Sarah at a later date.
During all of the sessions with Sarah, her passion for languages shines through. For us, our learning of Spanish was starting at a very basic level, and Sarah used multiple medium, audio and visual aids to make things simple and understandable.
I would highly recommend Sarah for anyone starting on their learning journey.
