Post 24 years' business experience in blue-chip companies across several functions and sectors, from management **Contact Detail Removed** to investment banking, in 2016 I left the 'City of London' to focus on teaching languages, my life-long passion!
I have a first class degree in French and Spanish, a post-graduate degree in Marketing, am CELTA-qualified to teach English to speakers of other languages (TEFL) and I am experienced in teaching 1-to-1 or groups in private, business or school settings.
I am DBS (formerly CRB)-checked to teach children and can offer individual or small group TEFL, business, exam or general English classes to all age groups, either in my study at home in south west London, at your home or in a public place, such as a coffee shop.
I use my teaching skills on a daily basis at 2 schools - a secondary school in the state sector, and an independent school, with children from Reception to A Level. In the former, I set up from scratch and lead the EAL (English as an Additional Language) provision, encouraging a whole-school approach to supporting and nurturing the considerable challenges faced by any pupil, who, recently arrived in this country with little or no English, needs assistance in accessing the curriculum and reaching their potential. On a daily basis, I am inspired by the resilience and courage shown by these pupils.
At the independent school, I delight in tutoring pupils with EAL, aged between 6 and 16.
In addition, on occasion I have enjoyed being a 'host mum' to TEFL students from two local private language schools.
It is truly rewarding to watch students gain in confidence as they improve, whatever their age or first language!
I now have more than seven years' TEFL experience (general, exam and business English) gained in Spain, Germany and the UK, teaching adults, young children and teenagers from very many nationalities, including Swedish, Ukrainian, Turkish, Spanish, Italian, French, Russian, Chinese, Japanese and South Korean.
As EAL Lead, I design flexible and customised schemes of work and deliver lessons, which coach pupils of all levels (though predominantly near/false-beginner), in the social and academic language they need to access the curriculum and catch up with their peers. I also run a 'Clinic' which encourages near-bilingual pupils to take responsibility for the ongoing development of their skills in the English language.
In the independent sector, at prep school level, the focus is more on developing the boys' and girls' literacy skills, including phonics; at the secondary school, on consolidating grammatical structures and developing exam technique, to prepare the girls to sit their Cambridge exams.
In addition, for the last 3 'summer holidays' I have worked at the British Council's most highly-rated private language school in the UK (a pre-reference is available), where I teach English to multinational groups of up to 16 students aged from 16 upwards.
In terms of levels, I have taught all of beginner, pre-intermediate, intermediate, upper-intermediate and advanced.
I find my extensive knowledge of French and Spanish invaluable in predicting, identifying and mitigating likely errors when teaching learners whose Language 1 is a Romance language. I also draw on my extensive commercial experience when teaching business English and English for IELTS.
Every learner is different, has their own experience, aptitudes, interests, motivations and timescales. I embrace this variety and put considerable time and effort into researching and creating individually-customised sessions which ensure progression towards a pre-defined, agreed goal, whether that be for pleasure, business or exam success.
I take pride in building a good rapport with all my students. We work hard together in partnership to build their skills and confidence and I am genuinely delighted for them when our mutual commitment brings them success. My approach and attention to detail have meant that all of my tutees have remained with me for many months (or until they had to return to their home countries) - please see reviews -.
I have an extensive repository of quality resources which address the four core skills of reading, writing, listening and speaking and I include elements of 'British culture' for TEFL learners, where appropriate.
I look forward to meeting you soon!

Apart from this, Sarah also helped my dad to pass the B1 and Life In the UK exams, showing her ability to teach people with different English levels.
I strongly recommend Sarah as an English tutor. You will benefit more than you expect!
I started learning Business English that could be helpful with my new job, but now I'm focusing more on learning grammar. She is very flexible to my specific learning.
She is very friendly and has good sense of humour:) We laughed a lot during my lessons and I love it very much!!!
I highly recommend her!!
Once you need Business English at work, we might perfect that too!
Sarah is a wonderful person and dynamic teacher who makes my learning interesting and much more engaged.
