Personal Description:

Having been brought up in a family where Italian and English were spoken all the time, I have achieved a mother tongue level in both languages. As a child I lived in London but then moved to Italy where I lived for several years. As well as the language I enjoy the familiarity with the cultures of both countries. Much of my work has involved using Italian as well as English both here and in Italy and I have a wide experience in many fields. I studied music at university in Cremona, ran my own grocery shop and bar for over 10 years near Parma and worked in the travel business for over 20 years in the world of opera, art and gastronomy.

Teaching Experience:

With private students at all levels I have also led classes at adult education centres in London, Staines, Basingstoke and Southampton with courses varying from holiday essentials to business certificates.

Teaching Approach:

I like to get students to hear and say things before they learn to read and write them and only touch on grammar once they are comfortable in using phrases they have learned. Of course, if grammar is something you really like to learn I am happy to do that. Many students who started at beginner level with me are now able to have conversations with me in Italian .

Each student is treated individually for their needs. You can use any method you prefer to study - there are books but valid websites are also widely available. There is no set pattern to the lessons unless of course you are aiming at taking an exam. I will draw up a lesson plan according to your goals but with some flexibility allowing for natural progress.

I teach in Italian so you have to get the gist of what I am saying to you from the word go!
