Personal Description:
Hi there,
This is Roberto, nice to e-meet you!
I am a native Spanish born and raised in Madrid (Spain) and I have been working as a freelance translator full-time since 2012 in Spain, and now in the UK. Before that, I used to teach Spanish to groups and individuals in one-to-one sessions. At that time, my translation career improved remarkably, and I found myself having more and more clients, therefore I started working as a translator full-time. However, teaching Spanish is one of my passions, so I determined to learn how to teach Spanish according to the communicative approach. Until that moment I had followed my intuition. However, I must admit that my students made excellent progress. Nowadays, I am an active Spanish Teacher in the UK certified by the European University of Madrid and Cálamo&Cran.
On the other hand, I speak several languages —English, Dutch, German, Danish, and a little bit of French. I lived in Vienna, Geneva, and Copenhagen, so I can say I know how to learn a language in order to teach them.
Teaching Experience:
Freelance Spanish Teacher with experience in one-to-one and two-to-one sessions in Spain and groups up to 12 people in the United Kingdom.
Teaching Approach:
My approach to teaching is based on the communicative approach. The aims depend on your needs and goals, what skills you need to improve, or, on the other hand, what weaknesses need to become strengths in terms of speaking, listening, reading, and writing. On the first day, we will have a conversation about these needs. After that, we'll plan the subsequent lessons according to the CEFR. By the end of each lesson, your Spanish will have improved remarkably.
More effectively, I set goals, contents, and activities. I usually choose a final task as a lesson goal, something tangible that you can take home and keep it, whenever possible, and we work accordingly. The rest of the thematic unit's activities are aimed to perform this final task.
The contents may vary and can be grammatical, cultural, pronunciation, vocabulary, etc. To implement this new content, we'll practice learning and communicative activities. By the end of the lesson, you must be able to have achieved these aims. I always estimate how long each activity will last to make sure we get to the final task.
