Personal Description:
I'm originally from Nagasaki, Japan and have been living and working in the UK for nearly 15 years. I have taught Japanese for the past 10 years and have students of all levels.
I'm a friendly and experienced Japanese tutor who aims to make lessons fun and engaging. My students' satisfaction is extremely important to me.
Separately I'm also an illustrator and author for a number of Japanese websites and online magazines, as well as creating artwork and miniatures on commission.

From Glynn (/5): Having learned some Japanese when I was working there as an expat, I wanted to revive my knowledge to keep my brain active now I am retired. Rie has pitched our weekly lesson just at the right spot. She is fun to work with and I look forward to the lessons. i am a casual learner who has forgotten a lot having passed Level 4 (now Level five ) of the JLPT some 20 years ago.

Rie is very patient and encouraging, and celebrates what seems like the smallest things like me actually remembering and being able to read some katakana :) (she is very patient and understanding with that, as I am struggling with it). It makes me feel good knowing that my efforts are being recognised and encourages me to study harder.
We’ve had a few sessions now and I feel confident in saying that I absolutely have found the right tutor for me and I would absolutely recommend reaching out to Rie to anyone who is considering studying Japanese.

I have been having regular lessons with Rie for nearly 3 months now. I was initially nervous about having lessons with a tutor. Rie has such an easy manner that I was immidiately put at ease, now our lessons are a high point of my week.
I established JLPT as a goal to work towards and Rie has been guiding me through a well structured program with that aim in mind. However my Japanese confidence as increased so quickly that I have now been able to accept a job teaching English in Japan starting next year.
Whilst I have conducted a lot of private study outside of sessions with Rie, this has been based on her advice and guidance. It is not unfair to say that without her I simply would not be in a position to move to Japan and start a wonderful new adventure.
Whatever your goal is I cannot recommend Rie highly enough!

I have been studying Japanese language on my own using books and apps for a few months but speaking with Rie has massively improved my understanding and confidence with the language.
