Information About Ruiping - Manchester teacher

Personal Description:

My name is Richard Xu, and I am currently based in Manchester. I am open to both online and in-person courses. I recently graduated from the MA Screen Acting course in University of Salford and have professional training experience of stage acting and line delivery from the Shanghai Theatre Academy. As a result, I believe my two greatest strengths in teaching Mandarin are my standard pronunciation, which provides a solid foundation, and my ability to create engaging situational dialogues for students to practice comprehensively and enjoyably.

Teaching Experience:

Over the course of several years, I have taught drama classes to children between the ages of 12-13 and 15 to 17 in various school settings. This experience also included helping high school students prepare for the Chinese National Art Exam to gain entry into university. I’ve also taught hobby acting classes to adults between the ages of 20-40 from broad range of backgrounds such as university students and professionals. It is important to note that throughout all the drama teaching experiences, there was always an emphasis on analyzing, understanding, and delivering standard Mandarin from a basic level, focusing on tone and pronunciation.

Teaching Approach:

Pinyin is essential for building a solid foundation for Mandarin learners. I will employ effective techniques, including line delivery methods, to help learners discover a standard or native way to pronounce Mandarin. Additionally, there will be a comparison of both English and Mandarin versions of famous lines from Shakespeare's works and classic movies. Then for dull grammar, my scriptwriting skills can help create engaging and valid dialogue scenes for learners to practice and understand, not only on paper but also through vivid imagery of real life.
