I am an experienced Dutch tutor. A Dutch national and native speaker, I speak Dutch, English, French and German and have been teaching Dutch, as a second language, in the UK for many years. I am currently learning to speak Spanish.
I was educated in the Netherlands and gained a BA in Sociology in Birmingham, plus a TEFL qualification in second language acquisition in Seville, Spain. I am also a member of a professional Dutch teacher's organisation which keeps me updated with information relating to 'Dutch for speakers of other languages'.
It all started when a very good friend of mine fell in love with a man from the Netherlands (a Nederlander). This led to teaching and taking her through a Dutch language course. The rest is history as the saying goes. I really enjoy and feel privileged in teaching my native Dutch language to others who are either in love, have Dutch family and friends, want to further their career or perhaps move to the Netherlands.
I teach Dutch corporately and privately either face to face or line and I have a full DBS because of my connections with schools and colleges. I am totally committed to teaching the Dutch language at all levels.
My goal is always to provide you with the best learning experience at an affordable cost.

I offer Dutch language courses for beginners, intermediate and advanced levels.
The courses are well structured, interactive and communicative. The Beginners Course to A2 level equips students with all the Dutch language skills needed to communicate in everyday situations. The textbooks are made up of chapters which all look at a specific area of everyday life.
For example, we first focus on the pronunciation of vowel sounds, preposition of place, nationalities and countries, simple present verbs, past verb forms, idiomatic future and describing people and places. You will quickly develop skills in listening, reading, spoken interaction, spoken production and writing the Dutch language. Lessons cover `every day` topics relating to Dutch culture and society.
The Beginners Course is the first step towards achieving the language standards recommended by the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) A2. At the end of the course students can interact with a degree of fluency and have reached the capacity to express themselves and discuss contrasting viewpoints. At B1 level you will be able to pass the Integration exam and at B2 level the Staatsexam.

I am currently two sessions in to my course and I’m throughly enjoying them. Ria is calm, understanding and puts you at ease. The lessons have been very enjoyable and I have been surprised by how much I have learnt in that short space of time.
I would absolutely recommend Ria to anyone considering Dutch lessons.
Thank you very much for your comments, which are very constructive and much appreciated. Glad to hear lessons are enjoyable too.
Ria is also very flexible with days and times for lessons and always tries to be accommodating.
Over all I highly recommend Ria as a tutor :)
I highly recommend Ria and look forward to my continued learning of the Dutch language!
I would definitely recommend her as a teacher for anyone who wants to learn Dutch, I'm a complete beginner and have made some great progress (according to my Dutch boyfriend) under her guidance.
With Ria you get the complete package, firstly dutch is her first language so she not only knows the language but also knows the manerism and pronunciation perfectly for each word/phrase. The fact her English is perfect helps also as she can help with the translstion of the grammar side of things very well.
Times are flexible and Ria will always try to work around you and not the other way round.
I have enjoyed my lessons so far and look forward to more.
Ria does not only encourage and develop your understanding of the Dutch language, but also makes lessons fun and flexible to suit individual needs.
I look forward to my weekly lessons with Ria and am thoroughly enjoying learning a new language!
Thank you so much for your feedback which helps me enormously when preparing future lessons. It is good to know that you feel 'pushed' and that you feel you are improving. Thank you for your kind words. Ria
