Personal Description:
Γεια σας. My name is Pinelopi and I am passionate about learning. I started studying languages in a very young age and I was always fascinated about their logic and how they sharpen your brain. My path was already there: I studied Classics, Modern Greek, Byzantine Greek and Linguistics at the University of Ioannina and shortly after I graduated, I started my Postgraduate Degree in Classics. Currently I am about to finish a second degree in the Department of History Archaeology and Cultural Resources Management of the University of the Peloponnese and I am about to start a Diploma in British Archaeology at the Department of Continuing Education in Oxford the academic year 2020/21. I am currently employed as an information literacy assistant at the University of Oxford.
Teaching Experience:
I have been teaching Ancient and modern Greek, plus Latin as a private tutor & at the University since my graduation in 2009. In particular, I taught Latin for two academic semesters during my Postragduate Studies at the University of Ioannina to first year undergraduate students, while simultaneously I was teaching modern Greek Literature and private courses to students of all ages. Additionally, from 2009-2014, I was assisting undergraduate students of Greek language and Classics to complete their studies. Another service I provided on a volunteer basis, was between 2013-2015 when I taught Modern Greek to foreigners, mainly immigrants who lived in Greece seeking for a better future in the Youth Centre of Kalamata and at the Centre for Former Alchohol and Drug Dependants. I was very pleased and one of those students enrolled to the Youth Centre of Kalamata's courses when they finished their programme. Currently (2020), I am teaching Greek as a foreign language to some students in Oxford and I recently started teaching Greek to some primary and secondary students of Greek origin, who live and study abroad.
Teaching Approach:
Flexibility is the key word for my teaching approach. I take into consideration the individual and adjust the learning practice to suit their needs. As a principle, I have an introductory session, in which I discuss the educational goals with the students and choose the most suitable textbook and teaching materials according to their linguistic proficiency. While I use simpler textbooks (approved by E.DIA.M.M.E) for primary and secondary students of Greek origin, I take into account students' hobbies and I enrich the teaching process by using materials such as songs (or even song composition), drawing, playing and new technologies. I follow similar methods for adult students, by adjusting the textbooks and materials to their level and finding the best resources to help them (e.g. videos for pronunciation, visual material or pretty basic textbooks) to enhance their confidence and familiarisation with Greek language. Greek is a rich language. It doesn't have to be a difficult language to learn.

Thanks,
Pinelopi
I really enjoy her teaching style. She uses many different resources to vary the classes, such as textbooks, online games and quizzes etc.
Thanks to Pinelopi, I have learnt so much in such a short amount of time and I feel even more motivated to continue studying greek. I can't recommend her enough as a tutor!
Our younger daughter, who is very shy, managed to develop a positive relationship with Pinepoli from the first lesson. An example of a strategy that Pinelopi used to help her with her writing was introducing playdough for letter formation. Our daughter was finding writing down some letters very tricky, but playing and using playdough to form them has helped her overcome this difficulty, while also making the lesson more interesting, diverse and fun. Pinelopi is always thinking of ways to make teaching fun, interesting and effective and is always reflecting back and thinking deeply about her methods.
Overall, my daughters are now always happy to have Greek lessons (which was not the case before Pinelopi at all) and are making very good progress. I can't recommend Pinelopi highly enough as a tutor, we feel very lucky to have found her
