Personal Description:

Γεια σας. My name is Pinelopi and I am passionate about learning. I have obtained an Undergraduate Degree in Greek Philology with specialization in Classics from the University of Ioannina, Greece. I also hold a Postgraduate Degree in Classics from the University of Ioannina and an Undergraduate Degree of Archaeology from the University of Peloponnese. I have completed my studies and received an Undergraduate Diploma in British Archaeology from the Department of Continuing Education in Oxford. At present, I am pursuing a MA degree in Library and Information Studies at UCL.

Teaching Experience:

Having a strong language background from her ancient and Modern Greek Language studies as a certified secondary education tutor, I have worked as a Tutor of Latin at the University of Ioannina Greece, where I taught undergraduate students. I have also worked as a private tutor of Greek high school students on subjects such as Modern Greek Language and Essay writing, Ancient Greek and Modern Greek Literature. I have received a certification in Greek Language as a foreign language teacher to adult learners and have taught Modern Greek to immigrants at the Youth Centre of Kalamata, Greece and vulnerable adult learners at KETHEA Kalamata. I have experience in teaching Greek as a second language to students of all levels. Currently, I am employed as a teacher of Modern Greek Language at the Greek School of Oxford and I teach Greek to levels from Year 5, pre-GCSEs and GCSEs.

Teaching Approach:

Flexibility is the key word for my teaching approach. I take into consideration the individual and adjust the learning practice to suit their needs. As a principle, I have an introductory session, in which I discuss the educational goals with the students and choose the most suitable textbook and teaching materials according to their linguistic proficiency. While I use simpler textbooks (approved by E.DIA.M.M.E) for primary and secondary students of Greek origin, I take into account students' hobbies and I enrich the teaching process by using materials such as songs (or even song composition), drawing, playing and new technologies. I follow similar methods for adult students, by adjusting the textbooks and materials to their level and finding the best resources to help them (e.g. videos for pronunciation, visual material or pretty basic textbooks) to enhance their confidence and familiarisation with Greek language. Greek is a rich language. It doesn't have to be a difficult language to learn.
