Personal Description:
I gained a BA(Hons) degree with a final grade of 2:i in French and German (including a first for my dissertation, which I wrote in German) in the year 2003, having spent a semester in both Germany (Potsdam University) and France (University of Pau). I am fluent in both spoken and written aspects of both languages.
I use both languages in my day-to-day work.
Teaching Experience:
I have tutored students in both languages, the most recent being in the academic year 2007-08, when I helped a student improve from a predicted D / E to a B final grade.
One of my 2010/11 students received a 'C' for her GCSE mock oral, but was awarded an 'A' for her GCSE oral proper.
Probably my greatest success was in 2012/13 with a French GCSE student. When we started, he could hardly speak a word of French, was forecast to achieve a fail and was a year behind the rest of his class. By the end of our lessons, he was top of his class and was awarded a 'C'.
Another of my GCSE students in 2012/13 achieved an 'A*’ in German and an 'A' Level student improved from a projected 'D' to a final grade 'B', enabling to achieve the required standard to study German at his chosen university.
Teaching Approach:
I start by assessing the student's ability and level of competence in the language and tailoring the sessions to their needs.
I like to see what the syllabus is the student is working to and plan the lessons around that.
I encourage the students to pronounce words in the target language correctly by using a certain amount of repetition.

You are doing brilliantly and it’s a pleasure teaching you.
strong subjects she felt a bit hopeless and that she would fail her GCSE
Phil was very positive and encouraging and she did manage a C
I would recommend to future students
