Personal Description:
Teacher of French (all ages, up to Oxbridge, and to adults), and Maths and English/ESL (all ages up to iGCSE and beyond).
BA (Hons) French from University of Birmingham, 1989. (One of my grandmas was French, but I learnt French just like anyone, from school onwards.)
47 years old, married nearly 20 years, with a son in upper sixth, and a daughter going into year 8.
I have been teaching 9 years now, and loving every aspect of it - whether in large schools, smaller specialist schools, private, state, or international; as well as the satisfactions of seeing private tutoring pupils really soar under my coaching.
Before teaching, I worked in international business research for 12 years - which meant I travelled to all sorts of French speaking places, in Europe and in Canada.
Teaching Experience:
Qualified as a Secondary Teacher in 2004, with a PGCE from Manchester Metropolitan University. Since that time I have worked full-time in a large number of schools, including Stockport Grammar School over a period of 3 years.
I trained to teach languages at secondary school level, but I have also had experience teaching and private tutoring to much younger pupils, from Year 1 upwards.
Although my main specialism is French, I have also taught Maths full-time at Secondary schools, and as a private tutor.
I can also tutor English to all ages up to iGCSE.
Teaching Approach:
First session, free trial, to meet, discuss, to check everyone is happy with the teaching plans.
Will teach at your choice of venue, as preferred (and/or online/Skype).
Totally focused on the pupil's needs, educational background, level and aspirations.
I will drive the pupil as hard and as enthusiastically as they allow, to get the grade they really need and want.
Plenty of reading, listening, audio-visual practice activities, as well as the crunch of speaking, pronunciation, grammar and writing!
Exam question tips and practice.
I will incorporate as much of the fun things the individual enjoys, whilst pushing on the hard things that they need to understand to progress!
