Personal Description:

My professional profile is mainly divided into two areas: Italian teaching/translation and Environmental Biology/Natural Science.

The Italian teaching area has been developed during the last 10 years (seven of which have been spent in United Kingdom), even though I have been passionate on either linguistic structures or teaching/learning processes since High School, inspired by the family atmosphere in which my parents and some relatives transmitted me the passion.

Professional competences on the Environmental Biology - Natural Science field have been acquired during my undergraduate studies in Ecological Science and Environmental Education and the master in Biodiversity and Environmental Quality (both with first-honours grades). Several internship/volunteer activities and training courses have enriched my curriculum on this area and allowed me to enhance my knowledge and expertise.

I am a friendly, calm and patient tutor that really loves teaching in a comfortable, positive and supporting ambience. I encourage you to participate actively to the lesson, and, according to the purpose, I promote activities, games and practical exercises focused on your needs. I do not prefer explaining concepts using only schematic structures, but I try to understand your main needs and gaps and I tail the lessons to your specific learning processes.

From Sophie (5/5): Paola has been a great Italian tutor for my teenage daughter. Her lessons are fun and engaging with clear content and a structured approach to learning the language. The lessons are supplemented by homework and feedback on progress. We're very pleased with our daughter's progress and with Paola's help she was able to speak with her cousins on a recent family holiday.

Everyone was very impressed with what I had learnt in 4 weeks. She is personable, friendly and makes everything very easy to understand. From Paul (5/5): Paola has been very encouraging and has helped me grasp the important concepts of grammar and sentence construction in Italian. So far so good and I feel progress is being made in my understanding of the language. I have understood that the gender of the speaker affects the words used as well as the gender of the 'things' and how this changes when discussing them in the singular or plural. Paola has given me some useful tools to help understand these concepts.

Thoroughly recommend Paola!

For instance, every time we had speaking sessions, she could identify my mistakes and then prepare the next batch of lessons to fully address it. I also really like how she is able to relate certain linguistic aspects to Italian culture and history- providing such context helps me remember the lessons in a creative way. I appreciate the way in which our lessons combine a disciplined approach to learning (such as the study of grammatical rules and vocabulary) whilst also talking about Italian culture and things that are relevant to me. Being set homework is definitely motivating and I think it is also good that Paola speaks in Italian as much as possible, even if I sometimes have to ask her to speak a little more slowly at the moment (not a criticism!). After a few weeks together I think we are realising what I need to focus on and it might be useful to agree a structure for the next phase of my studies.

She spends less time for grammar more on vocabulary, communication and conversation. Sometimes I keep forgetting a words thousand times but she patiently types them in on the screen. Highly recommended if you prefer to start your Italian predominantly with conversations and feel grammar is a bit less important for your needs.

From Jacquie (5/5): Since I first met Paola just a couple of months ago, I have been struck by her wonderfully naturalistic approach to acquiring new language skills.
When we first met, I spoke a few words of Italian and was developing an understanding of the complexity of Italian grammar. What with thirteen tenses, subject, object, adjective agreement, coupled with a very different syntax to English, it felt a very tall order to begin to make any tangible progress at all!
Paola has a kind and gentle approach to teaching others her native language, nurturing my confidence to express myself as richly as I can,while still at this early stage of my learning, in a way which excites my curiosity , coupled with a genuine sense of creativity and achievement! We laugh together too, which always helps make the World go round!
As an adult learner , I certainly could not welcome Paola highly enough! Her warm, welcoming home, gentle smile and genuine encouragement and flexibility make learning Italian an absolute delight! She has the gift of bringing alive the musicality and joy of her Mother Tongue!

I have had a number of on line lessons with Paola and have found her to be an excellent Teacher who has been very accommodating in meeting my time scales for the lessons. She uses a variety of teaching styles to make the lesson different and interesting and it also helps she speaks English and can help me out when I cannot find the correct Italian word. I will be continuing my lessons with her.
