Ahoj, my name is Ondřej, welcome to my profile!

Would you like to understand everyday Czech during your visits, have a conversation with your Czech partner or their family, or even master the language to get your university degree? I would love to assist you in your efforts!
I am a native Czech speaker with 7 years' experience in teaching both Czech and English. I currently specialise in teaching all levels of Czech online as my clients are mainly native English speakers. To make things more interesting, I have also resumed teaching English as a second language, which is what I had been doing in the first place all those years ago.

Teaching Experience:

I began my teaching endeavors shortly after I had moved to London in 2013. It started innocently, as I only wanted to use my spare time productively whilst learning a new skill, but it has since grown into a business, thus I am now a self-employed, full-time teacher… and I love it!
It has been an interesting journey so far for me, personally. Thanks to my students, I have gained a completely new perspective on my mother tongue, and I have had a chance to shape my English knowledge at the same time. Studying psychology at the Masaryk University (Brno, Czech Republic) also proved to be invaluable as I learnt a great deal about our mental faculties - how our memory, motivation, or learning strategies work. I have also been very fortunate to teach a lot of interesting, curious people, and covering all grammatical concepts with them meant that I had been able to fiddle with various approaches when explaining them, gradually getting better in facilitating their learning process.
Combination of all these factors has helped me seeing the subject through my students' eyes and led me to tailor my lessons accordingly.

Teaching Approach:

I like using a mix of textbooks and workbooks to practise reading and grammar in practical setting. Combined with listening exercises and speaking, it covers what most students generally require. Based on your personal preferences and needs, this ratio could be skewed in any particular direction, after all, I am here to help you!
For homework, I prefer using the Memrise app, which contains targeted vocabulary exercises. I have created several courses there covering everything that you need to know. This should maximise the exposure to any given topic so that motivated students can improve significantly outside the lessons as well.

From Greg (5/5): Ondřej is a great person for 1-2-1s to learn conversational Czech. He will also go through written work with you also and provide corrections, helping you to get a feel for how the language is used in practice rather than how we in English may think you should say things. Ondřej will expect you to self-drive your learning, though he provides advice and learning materials from his own resources to help where the student needs further support, and recommends that students follow the česky krok za krokem course.
