Personal Description:
My name is Molly, I'm 23 years old, and I'm based in Helensburgh just outside of Glasgow. I graduated in June of last year from the University of Glasgow with a First Class French and Politics degree and have just returned from eight months working abroad in the French West Indies as a British Council Language Assistant. This was a really challenging yet positive experience for me, and one which instilled in me a love for education. I was given more authority than I expected in the classroom, which allowed me to fine tune my teaching methods and experiment with ways of keeping the students engaged and interested. During this period, I also started offering private ESL lessons, giving me one-on-one teaching experience and allowing me to plan my own lessons and resources. I enjoyed this experience so much that I was sure I wanted to continue tutoring when I came home.
Whilst studying for my Highers, I myself benefited from a maths tutor, who increased my confidence dramatically and made me feel calm and prepared for the exam. Therefore, I know how important this role is and would be keen to provide that same experience for another student.

September 2022 - May 2023
British Council, Guadeloupe - French West Indies - English Language Assistant
Outline
Teaching English as a second language to over 120 collège (aged 11 - 15) pupils. Worked with
different classes, levels and pupils of all nationalities.
● Planned lessons and created learning resources in different formats (powerpoint, games,
vocabulary sheets, videos, creative activities)
● Worked with colleagues to evaluate local education and safeguarding policies
● Worked to recognise and overcome the barriers to education, language-learning and
knowledge acquisition.
● Incorporated cultural education alongside language learning, with an emphasis on the
diversity of English speakers and dialects throughout the world
Teaching Approach:
I believe language teaching is all about putting things in context. Memorising grammar and vocabulary by heart can be dull and monotonous, which is why I try to instill a love for the language and culture in the students. I like to incorporate facts about French speaking countries (not just France!) and the history of the language alongside the important learning outcomes. I encourage my students that it's okay to make mistakes, as long as they learn from the feedback given.
