Information About Michael - Gillingham teacher

Personal Description:

I have thirty-five years' experience as a teacher of history. I have recently successfully completed the CELTA course in order to engage in English teaching. I am interested in language learning myself: I try to keep up my French and Italian as far as possible. I have always read widely in literature and history in all their forms.

Teaching Experience:

I have a great deal of experience of teaching secondary school history. Recently I have switched my focus to Teaching English as a Foreign Language, in which I gained the CELTA qualification, which includes a strong element of teaching practice as well as theory.

Teaching Approach:

I have fully subscribed to the approach of my superb CELTA trainers: a genuine interest in the content of what my learners say; a focus on topic ("message") as the basis for addressing lexis and grammar ("focus on form"). It has been shown beyond question that rooting language learning in real-life situations, and above all the personal experiences of the learner, makes language learning highly effective.
