Personal Description:
My name is Megan and I have recently graduated from the University of Birmingham with a first-class degree in Spanish and Translation Studies. I am a caring, intelligent and dedicated individual who is keen to help others achieve the very best they can.
I have a passion for languages and have done since school. For me, a language is more than just words, it is the culture and history of those who speak it.
As part of my degree, I undertook a year abroad in Valencia where I worked in an international law firm. Not only did this year massively improve my Spanish language skills, but it also enabled me to experience the Spanish culture!
Teaching Experience:
In terms of my teaching experience, I have tutored Spanish for the last couple of years and have even taught English at a summer camp in the Basque country. By using my knowledge and experiences from these last few years, both at university and in Spain, I hope to instill some of my passion into those I tutor, encouraging them to work harder and achieve higher than they ever thought possible!
Having also experienced GCSE and A-Level exams relatively recently, I can also provide guidance on some of the best, tried and tested revision and exam techniques.
Teaching Approach:
The structure and delivery of my lessons will depend entirely on the students themselves, what works best for them and their learning. That said, with language learning, I am a firm believer in practice rather than theory. Therefore, I encourage students to speak as much Spanish as they can during the hour!
I also believe that, with languages, confidence gets you at least half of the way! So, a relaxed and friendly environment is really important to me to give my tutees the confidence to just go for it!
During the first meeting, I will gage the student's level, strengths, and weaknesses and also what the student hopes to achieve through our sessions. I will also ask for the syllabus they are following at school so that I can properly prepare!
Once I have all this, I will then put together a plan for the lessons, completely geared towards the tutee's needs, whether that be speaking practice, listening practice, specific exam questions, etc… I am completely flexible!
