Personal Description:
Dobrý den, I am a native Czech speaker living in Nottingham, UK. I grew up in a little village in the Czech Republic and then, after a 2-year stay in London, I returned to Prague where I taught English as a foreign language. That's when I realised that teaching languages is the best job ever. I loved meeting new people, sharing my knowledge of the language that I loved so much.
But somehow I ended up back in UK, this time in Nottinghamshire! I worked as an English/Czech interpreter for a decade but now I would like to focus on teaching language that I know the best because it's my mother tongue.
Teaching Experience:
Teaching English as a foreign language for individuals and companies in Prague, Czech Republic
In-person Czech lessons, usually 1-on-1, since 2015.
Skype Czech lessons, since 2017.
Teaching Approach:
My typical lesson consists of grammar, conversation and games, but I can be very flexible, depending on your preferences.
The first lessons is free to compensate for your initial cost (you have to pay a one-off fee to Firsttutors.com in order to obtain my contact details.) During my lessons I like to go straight to the point so we will be working on the pronunciation within the first few minutes of the first lesson!
My philosophy is that learning a foreign language should be fun and part of all learning is making mistakes.
I have many hobbies and interests, such as allotment gardening, willow-weaving, wildlife conservation, bird-watching, cycling, horse riding, guitar playing; I sing in a choir and I am a member of Nottingham Writers Club. Why do I mention my interests? Because interests make nice topic for conversation for our lessons, and
my lessons are as as conversation-based as possible. (That may not be everybody's cup of tea so I'm pretty flexible there!)
What about learning materials? I can provide handouts (grammar and exercises) or we can follow a textbook. Combination of both could be the best!
Thank you for your time spent reading my profile and I am hoping to see you during our lessons.

Marcela explains complex Czech grammar in an engaging way that makes it easier for Sophie to understand. She pays close attention to details and helps with pronunciation. Each lesson covers various topics, including grammar and conversation skills. Previously, Sophie wasn't very enthusiastic about learning Czech, but now, with Marcela, she looks forward to her lessons.
We are very happy with Marcela and would highly recommend her.
