This is how 2 referees rated Madeleine:
A graduate in French, I am a highly experienced, professional teacher who now specialises in private language tuition for all age groups and purposes. A language specialist, I teach French and Italian as well as English language and literacy and English as a foreign language.
I provide preparation and revision classes for GCSE, Common Entrance and IB in French, Italian and English as well as for Cambridge ESOL exams (FCE, CAE and CPE) and other public exams. I have extensive recent experience of creating and teaching tailormade courses in modern foreign languages which builds on a career in the management and teaching of English as a foreign language.
After leaving university, I worked as a teacher and translator in Italy for three years . Back in the UK I have taught for many different language schools and organisations, managed a Kent Country Council European training programme and run my own language training business providing european funded courses to Belgian and French government training organisations.
For the last 17 years I have worked as a freelance language tutor specialising in providing revision and support classes for public exams in French, Italian and English at KS2/3, GCSE, AS and degree level. I have been an OCR and Edexcel examiner for GCSE English and SATS.
I also specialise in providing French and Italian tuition for adults who wish to learn a language for holiday or general interest purposes. By taking 1.5 hours per week, many of these clients find they are able to go from total beginner to approx. GCSE level in under a year. I have taught a number of students taking Italian as an ab initio subject for the IB as well as university students taking Italian as a new subject and/or as part of a joint degree course and who find that they need additional support.
I teach EFL for general purposes as well as English for business and for academic purposes. I have been on the panel of examiners for the University of Cambridge ESOL examinations (FCE and CAE).
Private tuition is immensely helpful for school age students: it enables them to fill gaps in their knowledge, clarify unclear areas and enforce what they have already learned. They expand their general understanding of language and this can have a knock on effect in other subject areas - all of which considerably increases their confidence levels. Each course is planned to meet individual levels and needs in terms of material, pace and approach and I constantly update my materials and resources and use a wide variety of material and approach in order to create effective, interesting learning programmes. I track the school curriculum and relevant exam board requirements but also aim to bring new insights, give an overview of language structure and underpin spoken language with a solid grammatical base.
