Personal Description:

I am a highly experienced language teacher (French, Italian, TEFL) who now specialises in providing individual tuition in Italian for all age groups and purposes. With a background in running English training courses for professional/ businesspeople and trainees from all over Europe, I also offer support and tuition in English as a foreign language for general or professional purposes.

Teaching Experience:

After leaving university, I worked as a teacher and translator in Italy for three years . Back in the UK I have taught for many different language schools and organisations, managed a Kent Country Council European training programme and run my own language training business providing European funded courses to Belgian and French government training organisations.

For the last 17 years I have worked as a freelance language tutor specialising in providing revision and support classes for public exams in French, Italian and English at KS2/3, GCSE, AS and degree level. I have been an OCR and Edexcel examiner for GCSE English and SATS.

I now specialise in providing Italian tuition for adults who wish to learn the language for holiday or general interest purposes. By taking 1.5 hours per week, many of these clients find they are able to go from total beginner to approx. GCSE level in under a year. I have taught a number of students taking Italian as an ab initio subject for the IB as well as university students taking Italian as a new subject and/or as part of a joint degree course and who find that they need additional support.

I teach EFL for general purposes as well as English for business and for academic purposes. I have been on the panel of examiners for the University of Cambridge ESOL examinations (FCE and CAE).

Teaching Approach:

If you have made a New Year's resolution to begin or brush up your Italian or French then I'd be happy to help you with that. Whether you are a complete beginner of have some rusty knowledge of the language, we will start at the right point for you and move forward at a pace that suits. Each course is planned to meet the individual's learning requirements in terms of material and learning style : I constantly update my materials and resources and use a wide variety of material and approach in order to create effective, interesting learning programmes. The learning experience is also highly enjoyable and stimulating.

She is highly personable and has a lovely relaxed manner, creating a positive environment for learning. She has the ability to explain the intricacies of Italian grammar in a clear and succinct way, and has a myriad of resources to facilitate this. I would highly recommend Madeleine for all levels of learning.
