Information About Lucia - Woodstock teacher

Personal Description:

Hi, I am a native speaker experienced qualified teacher of Italian who has been teaching any level, from beginner to Advanced ( International Baccalaureate).
I have lived and taught in England since 2006, and before that I had taught English in secondary Italian State and private schools in North Italy.

I hold a current DBS check which I will bring to the first lesson.

Teaching Experience:

In Italy quite many years as a qualified teacher of Italian in secondary state and private schools. Posted in English schools by Italian Ministry of Education from 2006 to 2011; then, based in London I taught Italian from beginner to advanced level ( IB),and now in Oxford I am still teaching Italian from primary to Alevel.

Teaching Approach:

I have started with a traditional approach to teaching, but I am definitely moving to a more - if not totally - holistic approach, as I am realizing that language consists of more than a stock of objective facts. This means that in this holistic approach I tend to use whole pieces of language, rather than individual sentences, to prepare the learner for the language they will encounter in real situations. I will front texts, topics and tasks, placing great emphasis on meaningful communication from the learner's point of view. Texts will be authentic, tasks communicative, and learners will be encouraged to respond to the topics and texts, rather than to isolated phonemes and morphemes.
Whereas traditional syllabuses select language items solely on the basis of linguistic criteria, the holistic syllabus selects the items the learner needs to know in order to get things done, i.e… to complete the task.

Language errors are repaired while the student is on the task. Thus grammar is taught reactively, rather than pre-emptively. The focus is on function, fluency and use is still more like how learners experience the language outside in real life, rather than a focus on form, accuracy and analysis.
