Information About Lorna - Edinburgh teacher
This is how 4 referees rated Lorna:
I am a qualified English teacher and examiner with over 15 years of experience teaching internationally. I specialise in Academic Skills, Business English and English language for international adult learners.
I’m interested in a wide range of topics and activities, from psychology to outdoor adventure sports. When I’m not teaching, I love travelling (46 countries so far!), hiking in the mountains, skiing, reading and learning, singing, having good discussions and meeting new people.
So then, as you can imagine, I have a lot of skills and experience to bring to the classroom! That’s probably why I make your classes so interesting and fun:)
Looking forward to working with you!
I have worked in five continents and taught hundreds of students from Europe, Asia, North and South America, Africa and the Middle East. I have also studied five languages.
As well as my teaching qualifications (CELTA and DELTA – Distinction for teaching practice – and an honours degree in English), I gained two masters degrees from Edinburgh University (Anthropology, 2004, and Social Research, 2011 – Distinction), and trained as a journalist in London (NCTJ).
In my earlier career, I combined teaching with roles in business development, radio journalism and adventure trip leading, all of which were incredibly stimulating, instructive and character-building.
For me, it’s not just about learning English – it’s about having a memorable, and sometimes life-changing, experience. I believe that we learn best when we mix classroom study with real-life, English-based activities.
