Personal Description:

I have a degree in Theology with a background in classical and New Testament Greek.I taught RE,English and beginners' French in a Grammar school in North Warwicks before spending 26 years in Christian work overseas during which I taught English as a foreign language and,for one year, French as well.My time abroad included 1 year in France after which I gained an A level in French (grade A)and I lived for 21 years in Greece where I attended various private and one state run courses in the Greek language.I also gained a diploma in Albanian via the medium of Greek.I have a CRB check from last year ago.I don't drive and don't wish to travel now from home.I am aged 74

Teaching Experience:

Since returning to UK in 2001 I have been teaching Modern Greek, mostly in priva**Contact Detail Removed**ssons but also for one year at Gloscat in Cheltenham. Now I teach exclusively from my home halfway between Stroud and Cirencester.I have private students who come from various places in the southern half of the county, from complete beginners to beyond GCSE. Some have been coming for 10 years or more.At present,because of Covid,all lessons are on line and I now have a good number of students from elsewhere in England

Teaching Approach:

I use the BBC and Oxford materials, mostly which are suitable for tourists travelling regularly to Greece.With intermediate students and beyond I place quite a lot of emphasis on spoken Greek and also attempt to develop the students' listening skills but at all levels the 4 aspects of language teaching are included, using various materials.Social events(including Greek dancing and cookery) and conversation seminars add to the students' enjoyment and practice in the language and I seek to foster a friendly and happy relationship with all my students (mostly adults).Those in small groups pay lower fees and often become firm friends with their fellow students… I am not available for work from Friday to Sunday inclusive

At present all lessons are via Zoom or Messenger.
