Personal Description:

I am a qualified French and Spanish teacher able to teach all ages, from young children through to adults. I am 45 years old and after having my sons a few years ago decided to move into a career using a skill that I love the most: my languages. I have many years of training and development experience in the private sector, including time spent working in French-speaking West Africa.
Being able to speak other languages is wonderful when you're traveling, as you can really get to know people when you're on holiday, and can be a totally independent traveller. I have a very solid knowledge of French and Spanish culture, having travelled and worked in West Africa and Latin America. I am easy-going and really enjoy working with people of all ages and backgrounds, having also come from a human resources background.

Teaching Experience:

I am a qualified teacher of French and Spanish, French being my first and strongest foreign language, and Spanish my second. I am able to teach French to undergraduate degree level, and Spanish to Year 9. I have taught both French and Spanish in two comprehensive schools and have used a whole range of listening, reading, writing and speaking resources to stimulate students' interest.
During my university degree I spent a year in the suburbs of Paris teaching English, and have lots of knowledge and experience of this great city, as well as other areas of France and the French speaking world, that I can pass on to my students.

Teaching Approach:

I tailor each language class to the needs of the students. If you need to learn French for business I would ensure the resources and activities are based on this priority; if you want to learn the language so you can talk to the locals when you're on holiday, this can also be done. Having worked for many years in the consultancy sector in central London and having a business-related Masters degree, I have a sound knowledge of business and can therefore ensure that students learning language for business reasons are well catered for.
I believe in the importance of gaining a thorough understanding of the building blocks of language: the grammar, and with a new learner or one who feels they have trouble forming sentences because they don't know their verbs, grammar is so important. I also believe in the importance of being able to speak the language, and put as much emphasis as possible on this. Language learning should also be fun, so I ensure that my lessons draw on a wide variety of resources.
I also have access to language learning websites that students can use at home to practise what they have learnt during the lesson.
