Information About Karen - Birmingham teacher
This is how 3 referees rated Karen:
I am bi-lingual (Dutch - English) having been brought up in Belgium (Flanders) and lived 11 years in The Netherlands. I have a Bachelors degree and PhD in Dutch Studies.
I have taught Dutch from beginners to intermediate at the Brasshouse Languages in Birmingham for the past 3 years. I have also tutored people studying the A-level Dutch (which unfortunately no longer exists) and have taught some conversation classes at university.
The focus is primarily on speaking and listening for beginners. in order to gain confidence in speaking and listening there needs to be a basic understanding of how the language works (grammar). I like to introduce the vocabulary through common and useful topics, such as introducing yourself and shopping for beginners or academia for advanced students of Dutch. I provide plenty of activities (fill in exercises, translate, spot the mistakes) and use powerpoints as well as show clips with questions and activities that encourage speaking. I sue various textbooks to support the teaching.
