Information About Julie - Ballycastle teacher

Personal Description:

A native English speaker with a TEFL diploma and ten years' experience of teaching English as a foreign language.
I have travelled extensively and lived and worked in several countries - Belgium, China, Canada, Singapore, USA, Ireland… so I think I have a good understanding of what it is like to be at a disadvantage due to language while living abroad.
Thus, I can empathise with my students and I do my utmost to give them the assistance they need to cope with life in another country, both in work-related and personal situations.

Teaching Experience:

I taught English for ten years in Brussels, with Berlitz Language Centres and at a private language school, called Peterschool.
There, I dealt with all levels, ages and nationalities.
Preparation for Cambridge examinations was an important part of my work. Other examinations I dealt with were IELTS and TOEFL.
I also did interview practice, translation, proof-reading and assistance with websites.
Many of the students were from European Institution backgrounds, but there were also local students, college students and children.
Conversation classes were always popular and a fun way of learning.
I also gave lessons to private students in their own homes, many geared towards Cambridge examinations.

Teaching Approach:

I believe in a friendly, personalised approach, geared towards the student's needs, whether they are studying for professional reasons or private. I adapt the material to the interests, ability and wishes of the student. I have relaxed, friendly attitude while remaining professional and focused. I believe in using a variety of methods and material to keep the interest and momentum going. I have had lots of successful students over the years and plenty of experience dealing with a wide range of nationalities, their interests, examinations and projects. I like to make leaning a fun, enjoyable experience for all of us and I love sharing my enthusiasm for language with others.
