Personal Description:
I am a qualified and experienced tutor of English as a second language with a University degree in linguistics and cross-cultural communication. Higher education diploma was obtained in Russia in 1999. I graduated from Voronezh state university (the city of Voronezh, Russia). I am also a native Russian speaker. I lived in Russia for 33 years. I studied linguistics, Russian language, literature and history of Russia at school and university, so I can teach Russian as a second language as well. Now I live in Bedford (UK). I am eligible to work in the UK, have got a national insurance number and proofs of my address. My references are available upon request. So if you want to start learning, practice or master your English or Russian as a second language just give me a call.
Teaching Experience:
I worked as a tutor of English as a second language for Voronezh state technical university (the city of Voronezh, Russia) for 11 years (1999-2010). The university is among the best top ten technical universities in Russia. I dealt with teaching general English and grammar, technical English and translation for first and second year students; developing learning, test and examination material, teaching programs and written instructions for students; writing and publishing articles (37 written instructions for students and articles on linguistics and methods of teaching of English language were published in Russia). I also taught fundamentals of economics and marketing in English for the students of the economic department of the university for two years. Besides that I worked as a teacher of English as a second language and a class supervisor at school and in a college in Russia supporting pupils and students with learning difficulties. Irina has a unique way of teaching the language that has helped me pick things up quickly, she is kind, patient and very flexible. From Douglas (/5): Irina is an approachable, enthusiastic tutor. She uses a variety of teaching methods which includes describing pictures and watching and discussing films in Russian. She is also ready for the student to set his or her agenda such as talking about everyday topics and subjects the student would like to talk about. I can recommend Irina for Russian learners of any level. Irina has been instrumental over the past two and a half years in dramatically progressing my Russian speaking ability.

We have been having lessons for a little over 2 months and feel like we have made good progress with our reading and pronounciation. She is very generous with time and lessons often run over. She is also extremely felixable and understands that work commitments can sometimes take priority and lessons need to be rescheduled.
I am really pleased with how things are going and I know that I will continue to go to Irina for my Russian studies. As a native speaker her pronunciation is perfect but also speaks very good English.
Lessons are very affordable so having multiple lessons a week isn't a problem.

Her emphasis is on correct grammar and pronunciation, both essential elements for mastering this complex language. Her speaking voice is beautifully clear, for me, another essential. Irina takes the time to clearly explain how I need to approach aspects of the language and gives great tips for remembering what I have learned. From Elena (/5): I have found Irina to be flexible, professional and very patient. Her attitude towards me as her pupil is excellent and her teaching format is relaxed. I have in the past tried two different teachers of English and found that Irina has taught me more is such a short period of time compared to the other two. I would recommend Irina to anyone wishing to learn English especially if their native tongue is Russian.

Irina is very patient, she explains things very clearly which is very helpful as learning the Russian language is very hard! From Oliver (/5): I became a student of Irina’s in August 2015 after seeing her advert for a Russian tutor on First Tutors. I work in the education industry so am familiar with what it takes to be a good teacher and what it takes to guide and assist learners.
Irina is an extremely talented teacher. She makes our lessons fun and engaging using a variety of learning methods. Her depth of knowledge the English language and Russian languages is outstanding. I was not only quickly impressed at Irina’s knowledge of English but also how kind she was with it.
On more than one occasion have had to sheepishly ask her to explain how English grammar works (even though I am learning Russian). Each time she has explained in a way that I understand but also in a way that I don’t feel stupid for asking.
I come from an in investment banking background so my thinking is rather analytical and conceptual and find it difficult to learn if the subject matter is not presented in line with my learning style. Irina had no challenge with tailoring our lessons to match my learning style.
Whatever your learning style or requirements I’m sure Irina will be able to meet your needs.
If I could sum up my experience being a student of Irina’s in one sentence, I would say:
If you want to lean Russian or indeed English you couldn’t find a more committed, kind, supportive, talented, engaging and brilliant teacher than Irina.

From Ross (/5): Irina is a very patient and enthusiastic teacher, fluent in both Russian and English. Russian is a very difficult language and it is important to find a tutor like Irina that encourages you and works hard to address your shortcomings without making you feel stupid. I imagine she is very good with children and her references seem to support this. Irina also represents good value for money as she is prepared to spend much longer than the hour you have paid for in order to cover the planned material.
