Personal Description:

Shalom!
I am a native Hebrew speaker, with Israeli Teaching Certificate. I hold a PhD degree from at SOAS, University of London, and my dissertation focused on Israeli society, Israeli diaspora and diasporic Hebrew. I am the author of the Hebrew learning book "Hebrew for All" (Haifa: Pardes, 2020) which offers a modern and feminist approach to the study of the language. Apart from teaching, I am also an author, and I published my first book in Hebrew in 2016.
I'm friendly, organized and motivating teacher, with more than 10 years of teaching experience (in Israel, UK, Germany, in schools, after-school programs and universities and in Skype with students from Russia, Canada and the UK).
I currently teach only via skype. It works great and even saves time commuting :) I offer a 30 minutes free trail lesson
I also offer a 10% discount for student who sign up for 10 classes in advance.

Teaching Experience:

I started teaching during my national service, and I was teaching Hebrew to Palestinian kids in Lod and to migrants in South Tel-Aviv. I later gained a teaching diploma from the "Kibbutz Seminar Collage" in Tel Aviv. After moving to London to study for my PhD at SOAS, I have had the opportunity to teach academic courses as a Teacher Assistance at the university. I also worked part time teaching Hebrew at the New London Synagogue. I worked there with kids on a Sunday school, and with adults going through Conversion to Judaism Hebrew program. In the past 4 years I have mostly been tutoring privately, and I am enjoying it greatly. You are more than welcome to try a free trail class with me.

Teaching Approach:

I strongly believe in learning while using materials and topics that are related to the students, which is why I prepare different classes and different reading material for each of my students. You will not need to buy an expensive Hebrew book, and I will provide all work materials.
I always have a first meeting or talk with my students, understanding where he or she stands, what is their level, why do they need Hebrew (for research? for family? religious reasons?) and I structure my classes based on the needs and the objective of the students.
If you choose to start a Hebrew course with me you will be required to do homework each week and dedicated yourself to learning. A new language requires time and commitment!

I don't have to worry about travelling anywhere and can sit in my favourite chair with a big cup of coffee and learn in perfect home comforts! Hila is awesome, she is really friendly and very easy to work with. She is sensitive to the learners needs and responds appropriately. From the very first moment we met Hila on Skype we all felt comfortable and confident in her teaching. Highly recommend Hila. Amazing!

From Daniyal (5/5): Being originally from Israeli, Hila is obviously a native speaker of Hebrew and therefore the pronunciation and authenticity of the Hebrew is always going to be as natural and authentic as it gets.The worksheets Hila provides are suited to my level of Hebrew and we have already progressed quite quickly together on the whole, despite being an absolute beginner myself and needing to take time over the initial stages of learning the necessities of the language like the alphabet.The good thing is that Hila explains things well and clearly when you find yourself stuck on something and she is very patient. My journey towards holding a reasonable command of Hebrew will be a long one but i like the look of the approach we are taking.Overall I find that Hila has the correct attitude towards teaching and is generally a nice person, so i am pleased with my decision to start lessons with her.
