Personal Description:

I'm Helen and I fell in love with France and all things French thirty years ago when I spent a year teaching in France whilst completing my degree. I know how hard it can be to learn a new language, but it can also be fun! I'm a qualified French teacher, I'm bubbly but patient and I'm here to help you develop and improve your key language skills, encompassing listening, speaking, reading and writing.

Teaching Experience:

Although I qualified as a French teacher and have spent many hours in a classroom, I have also spent much of my working life using my French in a business environment, as a Wine Buyer for a major retailer. However, I loved teaching so much, that I did 1-2-1 GCSE tutoring and group work for KS1 whenever I could fit it in. I now have the freedom to pursue this passion for French and for teaching further.

Teaching Approach:

I employ a flexible approach, lessons would be tailored to the student's needs, to ensure they are lively, interesting and interactive. French is a living language, so I want to help the student gain confidence whilst conversing in French, therefore lessons are designed to be useful in real life situations. I use a variety of resources and want to immerse the student in French culture, whether that be by enjoying French patisserie or by doing some wine tasting by region, using my experience as a Wine buyer (adults only). If we have fun, are focused and make measured progress, then I consider my job well done.

Our 7 years old daughter needed to take French lessons in anticipation for the family to move to France, what means that she needed to start from the scratch and to become familiar with some basic tools for her to become quickly integrated in a French environment, particularly the school. Helen tailored the lessons in a way that our daughter was always engaged learning typical French expressions, to talk about herself in French, to become familiar with numbers, and many other elements to facilitate communication in French. But talking about skills teaching French is not all, Helen was also very polite and adaptable to our needs organizing a true classroom at home. We are very appreciative for her commitment and expertise. Thanks Helen!

From Robert (4/5): Helen was a very effective teacher. She was well prepared for each session, quickly established my level of French and used a selection of resources to provide progressive lessons. We wrote about, spoke about and listened to a variety of conversations and videos etc. On top of that, Helen is an extremely friendly person, making learning very accessible. I would thoroughly recommend anyone to use Helen as a tutor.
