Personal Description:

Hi, my name is Eva and my job and my passion is teaching.I was born and educated in Hungary but got married in the UK.
I am a native Hungarian speaker and a fully qualified English and Hungarian teacher with a Bachelor's degree.

Teaching Experience:

I have been working as a teacher for more than 20 years. My students' age ranges from 6 to 65 so it is never too late to start!
I was teaching languages for primary and secondary school students and also to adults. I love giving one-to-one tutoring because this is where teaching can be most efficient in my view. By teaching individually, students' needs and goals can be fully considered and I can adjust my lessons accordingly.

Teaching Approach:

My approach is communicative language teaching.Of course you have to learn the words and some basic grammar rules but my main idea is using the target language in conversation even at the very early stages.
Ill also make sure that you enjoy the lesson because I know that if you have fun you are at ease and you are not worrying that much about making mistakes. I always encourage my students to "play" with the language, to take risks and say things even when they are not sure that their sentence is correct! Why? It's simple: this is the only way to make progress! This is the way kids learn their mother tongue! You will never get better if you "play safe" and you only say things of which you know for sure that they are correct.

From Jane (5/5): I am very pleased to be able to comment on Eva /Cookson's style of teaching. I am an absolute beginner who has been learning Hungarian now for one year. Under Eva's instruction I am now able to construct basic sentences both written and spoken. I appreciate being taught by a native speaker - because I enjoy learning about Hungarian society and culture as well as the nuances of the vocabulary. I have been reluctant to speak (I am more comfortable writing) - but Eva has been very patient in encouraging me to read aloud (to improve my pronunciation) and engage in conversation. I have also appreciated the method of instruction - working through a workbook with a very structured approach to grammar. This is exactly as I like to approach language learning. The pace set by Eva is exactly right for me. Because I am learning Hungarian as a hobby - we can go slowly (which is what i need) with plenty of revision. I would recommend Eva to anyone who wanted to learn Hungarian with a teacher who is able to tailor the teaching style and content to the individual needs of a student.

From Graham (5/5): My wife and I have only had 4 lessons of Hungarian with Eva so far. We have greatly enjoyed all of them from day one. Eva has a excellent teach approach, making each lesson interesting, informative and fun. We were surprised at how much we have learnt in such a short period of time, and are enjoying putting in extra time to our studies of the Hungarian language.
We would recommend Eva to anyone wanting to learn Hungarian (beginners to more advanced). She is very friendly and supportive, and we feel confident when trying out new words without feeling silly. Eva always makes time at the end of each lesson for us to discuss how the lesson has gone, discuss homework, and what we will include/or like to include in the next lesson.

We have been studying Hungarian with our tutor Eva for approx. 16 months now. We have enjoyed every lesson. We have gained so much confidence when speaking Hungarian with Eva and have confidently practised what we have learnt when visiting friends in Budapest/eating out/shopping/buying tickets etc. Eva is a fantastic teacher, who has great patience, a good sense of humour, and who makes every lesson interesting and fun - even when learning grammar! We would recommend Eva to anyone wanting to learn Hungarian, Debbie and Graham Brown :)
