Personal Description:

A qualified teacher of Russian and Art, I taught in secondary schools and professional colleges before moving to UK in 1994. Since then, I've worked in UK in various educational settings as well as engaging in private tuition.

Teaching Experience:

I have over 20 years of experience supervising learning, teaching and tutoring children and adults of varied abilities and backgrounds both in the UK and abroad.
Since 2020 I have been working with National Tutoring Programme providing English and Maths tuition for children in KS1 - KS2.

Teaching Approach:

I tailor my lessons to suit the needs of each of my students. I identify learning gaps; devise study plans; prepare learning materials and deliver tuition on a one-to-one basis or in small groups both online and in person.
With learning targets in mind, I build lessons to incorporate words, phrases and terminology the student needs; and choose resources that suit each learner best.

Zoom/online option is available. It is a sure way forward for distance learners.

Note: missed lessons that were not canceled at least two hours prior to the start of the lesson will be charged at a full rate.

From Martin (5/5): Elena is an excellent teacher, I had only 1 lesson with her and had to cancel due to my personal circumstances.

But I can tell she is thorough and patient, I had many questions for Elena and she took the time to explain all of her answers to me.

If my circumstances change, I would not hesitate to contact Elena again to tutor me in Russian.

From Ann (1/5): Elena accepted my enquiry about teaching my son (with SpLD) online. She took advice from a friend of hers about how to teach such kids. About 3 or 4 sessons in, she lost her temper wth my son who called me for help. She then told me that he was stupid and lazy and that I was a stupid mother for believing he had SpLD. I ended the phone call.

Reply from: Elena: I'm afraid that Ms Todd is prevaricating a bit. I did accept her son as my student but warned her that it will be a trial since I have no experience in tutoring children with dyslexia. Ms Todd insisted on us trying it and she was present during all 3 sessions interfering and coaching me. After our third lesson, I informed her that I will not be continuing for two reasons: her constant interference and the fact that I felt unequal to the task. Ms Todd became verbally abusive and confrontational and I had to ask her to stop harassing me. I would never use the words Ms Todd attributed to me. Why Ms Todd decided to post slanderous feedback a year after is anyone's guess…

From Alice (5/5): Elena worked well with my son starting in January 2016 through to taking his GCSE in June 2019.
He mainly had lessons via Skype which worked really well for fitting into his schedule after school.
Learning was structured and disciplined, with homework, and exam preparation was very thorough.
I'd have no hesitation in recommending Elena to others.

previously.
She has kept sessions pitched perfectly for him at age 12 and has made each lesson varied,
enjoyable and interactive.
My son is learning a lot and improving immensely.
