Personal Description:
Having taught languages for 30 years I am now on a break from school teaching while I study part time for my Masters. I am willing to take on a limited number of secondary school pupils Y7-Y13 who want to improve their language skills for academic purposes, either because they have lost their way and need help catching up or who have a love of languages and want to go beyond what they are learning at school, perhaps to continue to university.
Teaching Experience:
30 years experience teaching beginners to A Level in both Spanish and French in top London independent schools.
Excellent results year on year with pupils of all abilities, from near-beginners to Oxbridge entry.
Familiar with GCSE, IGCSE, A Level and IB (Language A& B) syllabuses and mark-schemes for all major examining boards.
Speaking Moderator for Cambridge IGCSE examination board.
Experience of marking GCSE writing scripts for AQA examination board.
Former Pastoral Head of KS3 responsible for pupil welfare of 230 pupils.
Full familiarity with UCAS application process with many years’ experience as a Sixth Form tutor.
Experience of preparing pupils for Oxbridge entrance examinations.
Teaching Approach:
I love teaching languages and work positively with all my pupils.
I offer a structured and fun approach and enjoy teaching both pupils who are good linguists and want to be stretched as well as bringing struggling pupils up to a much higher level. I am patient and explain the grammar in a clear and structured way.
I cover the four skills of speaking, writing, reading and listening with an emphasis on grammatical accuracy and relevant topic vocabulary.
I have led/participated in many MFL trips abroad and love sharing with pupils the culture of the countries where the languages are spoken.
I have a worksheet of my own creation for everything to cover all the academic objectives and reinforce verbs and grammar!
Please get in touch so we can talk through any questions you may have and arrange an introductory lesson.
