Information About Dimitra - Birmingham teacher
This is how a referee rated Dimitra:
I was born and raised in a Greek island called Evoia. I graduated from the University of Athens in 2016 with a BA in Classics and Modern Greek Studies. In 2017 I came to Birmingham with a scholarship to pursue my studies in Modern Greek Culture and Literature at the University of Birmingham. After 2 years of thorough research on the reception of the French author Emile Zola in Modern Greek fiction of the first half of the 20th century, my research dissertation passed with no corrections and I graduated in September 2019. During this time, I started working as a digital transcriber of a corpus of Greek New Testament miniscule and majuscule manuscripts for the University CATENA project (funded by the EU). During the second year of my studies I also started working as a Modern Greek teacher in the Birmingham's Greek Community School 'Ayia Triada'. In September 2020, I begun a second Masters degree (MA) in Art History and Curating at the University of Birmingham which I successfully completed in 2022. Since 2018 I work as a private tutor of Modern Greek Language taking over various levels with students of all ages.
I have a 10-year experience in private tutoring of Modern Greek. The last 5 years I specialise in the teaching of Modern Greek as a second or foreign language to English-speaking audience. My two-year work in the Greek Community School of Birmingham helped me to gain further experience in teaching to various year groups (from year 1 to GCSE level and adults). Since 2018, I have tutored (in a private and school level) over 30 students of all age groups (including adults) who all succeeded in exams of various types (e.g… GCSE and Ellinomatheia).
Modern Greek is not just about the exams though. Greek is an amazing language for anyone who wishes to familiarise themselves with the Greek culture and have an amazing time in the beautiful destinations of Greece and Cyprus. Therefore, I have wide experience in teaching Modern Greek to (adult) students who want to communicate easy and better when visiting the beautiful Greek islands during their vacation.
In a few words: targeted, efficient, bespoke and relaxed. Dependent on the level and the needs of each student, I tailor my resources in a way that they would feel comfortable and encouraged to keep up with the learning process.
I am funny, positive-orientated and patient. I am always open to share my experiences and knowledge on Greek culture (especially food :P ) and civilisation.
Through a wide variety of resources I encourage my students to talk and have short conversations in Greek from an early stage! Practise through fun speaking (and/or reading and writing) activities is the best way to learn :)
