Personal Description:

I was born and raised in Paris and I have been living in the UK for the past fifteen years. I started speaking English at the age of seven, studied English, Latin and Russian at school and I now speak fluent Italian. I'm passionate about languages and the language learning process.

I teach French and English to students of all ages, from 7 to 77! My task, as a teacher, is to adapt to my students' interests and needs, to create classes they not only enjoy but which give them confidence to express themselves in a new language.

What I enjoy the most is what I call the ‘light-bulb moments’, when students speak, forgetting the fact that they are using a different language and, floored by the realisation a couple of sentences later, break into a huge grin. In other words, I teach to empower my students with languages and make them independent, confident speakers.

Teaching Experience:

I have 18 years of teaching experience at University, in language schools and giving private tuition. I am used to teaching French and English to students of all ages and levels, in groups or in one-to-one sessions, preparing them for various exams, including GCSE French, job interviews and move to France.

Teaching Approach:

I use a wide range of methods, books and supports (videos, films, podcasts, websites etc.) to make the class engaging and to give a break from grammar. I provide a list of reference books and links and, where necessary, detailed teaching programmes.

If you are passionate about cars or wines, our lessons will revolve around those topics. If you are a movie buff, I will encourage you to read movies and magazines in the language you're learning because it means half the work is done already in terms of comprehension. I even did a cooking lesson in French once in my own kitchen! Whatever it takes… I always start by explaining what language means and what are the key differences between French and other languages, because I believe my students need to understand the logic of a language before studying it. I focus in equal measure on speaking, listening, reading and writing, to ensure an even and more effective learning process.

What I enjoy the most is what I call the ‘light-bulb moments’, when students speak, forgetting the fact that they are using a different language and, floored by the realisation a couple of sentences later, break into a huge grin. In other words, I teach to empower my students with languages and make them independent, confident speakers.

'Caroline is quite an exceptional teacher. She is adept at constructing lessons to make the most effective use of time while maintaining an atmosphere of care and humour which makes the work so much more enjoyable.'
Bryan Ward

‘Caroline makes me feel engaged and supported. Her classes are fun and, with her, grammar becomes easy! I now feel confident enough to converse with native speakers.’
Stefano Lombardi

‘Caroline completely built up my confidence and inspired me to really want to learn French and keep on learning it. I learnt so much in such a short amount of time, I wish she could be my teacher for ever.’
