Personal Description:

Following a career in Midwifery my passion for languages made me decide to train as a teacher. I have a very high level of French, having worked in Switzerland for 5 years as well as completing my BA degree. I also worked for one year in Germany and gained a good level of the German language. I believe that language-learning is important not only for academic reasons but also for personal development. In recent years I have studied Spanish, Mandarin, Japanese and Irish, giving me the perspective of a novice learner.

Teaching Experience:

I am a qualified teacher of French and German and have experience of preparing pupils for GCSE and A level examinations in French. I have taught French, German and Spanish in schools, as well as tutoring French to adults learners.

Teaching Approach:

When taking on students I always establish what their needs are in terms of current ability and desired outcome of tuition. I use a variety of teaching methods and resources, according to needs, learning style and time available. I am a patient teacher, and enjoy helping students make progress in their language-learning.

From Sharon (5/5): Ann has a lovely, calm encouraging manner. My daughter has enjoyed her lessons, gained more understanding and feeling more confident in her ability going back to school.
Ann has certainly helped her with the trickier elements of French grammar.

From Karen (5/5): Ann provided excellent tutoring, initially beginners German to my 2 sons. This allowed them to confidently speak a little German on our summer holiday with German friends last year.
We then asked Ann to tutor my youngest son in preparation for his Spanish GCSE exam. She was very flexible and worked on the areas where he felt he needed more support. Ann recommended he sat his Spanish GCSE exam early and he was delighted to do this and achieve grade 9.
We would highly recommend Ann for language tutoring.

From Jean (5/5): Ann is very attentive to the needs of the student. She listens to what you require of her, and is very supportive both at the lesson and after, by means of sending information to enable the student to follow up on key points. My daughter got on with her instantly.
