Personal Description:

Having lived and worked abroad I understand the challenges of learning a foreign language as well as the immense satisfaction it brings. I enjoy teaching, finding it very rewarding to see my students progress and achieve their aims. I am friendly and approachable with good communication skills and lots of patience!

Teaching Experience:

I have over twenty five years' teaching experience with both children and adults. I qualified in the teaching of English as a Foreign Language before teaching English in Spain and New York. I have PGCE teacher status and have worked full time as a primary school teacher in England and part-time as a supply teacher in both primary and secondary schools. I studied Spanish in Peru, French in Caen and hold a First-Class Honours degree in Modern Languages, (French and Spanish). I teach both languages on a one-to-one basis and also to groups. In addition I teach English to speakers of other languages and English for academic writing.

Teaching Approach:

Effective teaching needs to meet the requirements of the learner. I start by listening to students so that I fully understand their motivations and what they want to get from lessons. Some students require more focus on speaking/listening skills, perhaps for holidays, whereas others might need to concentrate on reading/writing in preparation for exams. Assessing their needs and planning lessons thoroughly, I allow for structured progression in the key skills of language acquisition. I have a methodical approach, believing that students need to be given constant opportunities to apply what they have learned. My aim is to guide and motivate, tailoring lessons to individual needs and incorporating challenging, enjoyable activities which focus on learners' personal interests and aspirations.
