Personal Description:

Γεια σας!

Andromachi (Maggie) was born in Patras, studied and worked in Greece until 2016 when she moved to Manchester for her Master`s Degree in Music. Maggie`s studies have concentrated on Humanities as she received her BA (Hons) in European Civilization (Humanities, 1st) from the Hellenic Open University (HOU), the Certificate of Proficiency in English from the Universities of Michigan and Cambridge and the 120 Hours TEFL/TESOL Certificate. Also, she obtained a Master degree in Composition (Instrumental & Vocal) from the University of Manchester as a full time postgraduate student and earned with Distinction her Diplomas in Music (Harmony, Counterpoint, Fugue, Composition) from well-known and highly regarded Conservatories in Greece. She collaborated with Nikolaidis Publications (Athens, 2003) in translating (as collaborator in translation) the American book HARMONY, W. Piston in the Greek language. Apart from Greek and English, she has also studied German and Italian.

Teaching Experience:

Andromachi taught in Greece as an EU Qualified Music Teacher in primary, secondary education and higher education and conservatories for 23 years working with different age groups (6-18 years old and adults) and abilities in 1:1, medium and large class sizes. As a Modern Greek tutor, she has worked in schools and private with immigrants (children and adults) from the Balkan countries assisting them to integrate and embed with the Greek society and culture. Andromachi has taught as a UK Qualified Music Teacher (both in primary and secondary education) in primary, high and sixth-form schools in Manchester, and the Amber Trust in London since 2019.

Teaching Approach:

Greek is a fascinating language of one of the oldest ancient civilizations, the landmark of many modern societies. Culture and language are strongly interrelated with each other and constantly developing. Every language has unique meanings, expressions, concepts, not only words. This is why she tends not to focus on the pure translation of words, but she also considers it her duty to teach through the Modern Greek language every part of the well-known Greek Civilization; a subject she is familiar with through her studies BA (Hons) in ‘European Civilization’. Her experience as a teacher in Greek and English institutions have equipped her with the necessary skills, ability and fluency in both languages and at the same time she is absolutely able to teach the language and transfer skills in a professional manner. The Prosody of the Greek Language by itself is an entity widely connected with rhythm and music. Her experience as a singer and composer, as well as, a music teacher has provided her with the ability to teach efficiently the elements of the Greek language by using music, assisting students to memorize easier words, grammar, syntax and accent. Therefore, learning a language is not only about the transmission of knowledge, but also about the full participation of the learner, the exploration of a new world, the Greek Culture.

Among Andromachi`s main concerns are the participation of the student and his/her family during the educational process in its entirety. Thus, she is highly enthusiastic, dedicated in working meticulously, efficiently and effectively in providing tailor-made, up-to-da**Contact Detail Removed**ssons, facilitating the students in achieving their personal goals. Every lesson is designed, planned and well-structured in a solid pedagogic manner with extra resources being provided in reading, writing, listening and speaking with the use of CDs and DVDs, etc. The lessons always concentrate on pupils` interests, abilities and goals (pleasure, business, or exams); and every step is fully supported especially during the exam (GCSE/A-Level/IELTS) preparation period. Moreover, she teaches and prepares adults, and undergraduate students for essays, dissertations and exams, and is also available for on-line tuitions and translations. The Socratic approach is applied in order for the tutees to participate during the lesson facilitating thus independence and confidence. Andromachi has a strong work ethic and is patient, respectful to the students, flexible, with positive attitude, open minded, and a good listener able to solve problems.
