Personal Description:

Hello my name is Andrea and I am a native English speaker, living in the UK, with over 35 years of teaching experience. I have a Bachelor of Education Degree and the Cert TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) from Trinity College, London. I really enjoy doing private tuition, both 1:1 and with small groups. I love the more relaxed setting that tuition offers and it is great to get to know my students, seeing them relax and quickly make progress. I have been teaching adults, teenagers and older children for many years, and I teach all year round, which means I am also able to offer short tuition slots when people (or their children) are just visiting the UK for a holiday. I offer ONLINE as well as face-to-face lessons. In addition, I offer proof reading, which foreign nationals studying at university find especially helpful.
My family & I enjoy foreign travel and I also like reading, gardening, singing and playing the drums.

Teaching Experience:

I am a qualified teacher and have been teaching for 35 years, in schools, colleges, university, industry, the local community as well as private 1:1 tuition, and small group lessons, both face-to-face, and ONLINE. I have experience of teaching all levels from beginner/elementary, up to proficiency level. Sometimes it is just to give greater confidence in English but I also tutor for exam preparation; particularly for IELTS and the Cambridge PET, FCE, CAE & CPE exams. I find English fascinating and have a particular interest in vocabulary.

Teaching Approach:

I absolutely love doing private tuition and know from personal experience, when I was a teenager, how incredibly valuable and empowering it is. I always tailor-make a course for each student, taking into account their needs, interests and when applicable, exam technique requirements. I tend to teach in my home, so that I can provide a calm, friendly, fun and relaxed atmosphere, away from distractions. However, sometimes it is possible to travel to students and I also offer ONLINE lessons. Most lessons last 1 - 2 hours.

From Vicky (5/5): Andrea is a very polite lady, who has a relaxed and friendly approach. She has been quick to settle my 15 year old son comfortably into regular tutor sessions, spending time to understand the areas of the English curriculum he finds difficult.
She is confident and clear in her communication with me. Both parent and child ( and hopefully tutor) are happy.

Andrea found the right approach to teach him English and after two weeks my son came back as a little English chatterbox. Now, English is his favourite and one of is best subjects at school. Andrea makes everything very interesting and easy to understand and she is always willing to provide extra help if I'm struggling with a piece of writing. I feel my confidence and school work has improved and my History teacher says he has noticed a definite improvement in my writing skills.I really look forward to her sessions and wouldn't hesitate to recommend her as an excellent English tutor.
